AHEC 20th Southeast Asia & Greater China Convention

Why Chongqing, China?

Chongqing is China's largest Autonomous Municipality with a reported population of 36 million, well-known for bridges and mountains, located in the Southwest region of China at the upstream of the Yangtze River and linked to midstream city-Wuhan. It is connected downstream to the huge commercial Autonomous Municipality-Shanghai. Chongqing enjoys the advantage of lower-cost water transportation along the Yangtze River as well as its railway transportation system and has the potential to become the biggest timber distribution hub to meet the growing timber demands of 650 million people in the Southwest region of China. Chongqing and Chengdu are separated by less than 300 km. Their elements of uniqueness complement each other's economic strength and shortfalls in Southwest China.

There are over 500 timber product enterprises producing furniture, flooring, doors and joinery to meet the growing demand of Chongqing's immediate domestic consumption as well as the whole Southwest region. The vast property developments in the Municipality create its booming market for interior design and decoration, consequently creating potential demand for American hardwood.

The two-day convention is expected to attract more than 350 delegates including AHEC members, and leaders of the industry and design communities from the USA, Greater China and Southeast Asia, providing an excellent opportunity for business networking and exchanges of market information.
